Son-in-law of Russian Aerospace Forces Commander Alexander Chayko killed in Moscow restaurant blast

Daniil Peredriy, son-in-law of Aerospace Forces Commander Alexander Chayko, was killed in the August 1 explosion at the Italian restaurant Balzi Rossi in Moscow. Leaked data from two government databases confirms his death, the independent Russian investigative outlet Agentstvo reported.

The outlet found that one of Peredriy’s personal documents was invalidated on August 1. Its number was in one of the leaks. The type of document was not specified.

Peredriy’s death also surfaced in Russia’s Unified State Register of Individual Entrepreneurs, which shows his sole proprietorship was terminated on August 1 “due to the death of this person,” according to an extract reviewed by Meduza.

Blogger Anatoly Shariy had reported Peredriy’s death earlier. He also wrote that Chayko’s daughter, Maria, was injured in the blast, a claim that remains officially unconfirmed.

A homemade explosive device, brought into Moscow’s Balzi Rossi restaurant by an unidentified woman, detonated on August 1. The Russian business daily Kommersant identified her as a courier. Five people died — three at the scene, two more in the hospital — and 19 others were injured.

Russian Aerospace Forces Commander Alexander Chayko was celebrating his birthday at the restaurant that day, according to media reports. He was appointed to the post in May 2026. Before that, he had led, among other operations, Russia’s 2022 offensive in the Kyiv region.

No one has claimed responsibility for the blast, though Russia’s Foreign Ministry blamed Ukraine. “In planning a terrorist attack at one of Moscow’s best Italian restaurants, Kyiv terrorists wanted to frighten Italians working in Russia, to show them that they, too, are in the crosshairs and could become the next victims of these scoundrels at any moment,” the Russian Embassy in Italy stated. Rome rejected that version of events, and Kyiv did not comment on the incident.
