Ukraine reportedly strikes Russian technological university where drones were being developed
Ukrainian drones struck Belgorod State Technological University (BSTU) in Russia’s Belgorod, according to the local Telegram channel Pepel.
A fire broke out at the site of the strike. Pepel said the building hit was where BSTU developed and tested drones, adding that it had burned down completely.
The Ukrainian Telegram channel Exilenova+ also wrote about the explosions in Belgorod, adding that, “according to comments from local residents,” BSTU had been attacked.
BSTU’s official VKontakte group page regularly highlights drone technology as one of the university’s focus areas. One post, for example, invites applicants to the university’s College of High Technologies to study “Operation of Unmanned Aviation Systems,” with the qualification “Operator of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.”
Another post reports that BSTU and Sakhalin University “agreed to cooperate in the fields of drone aviation and construction.” The page also features updates on students entering their projects in various competitions and programs.
The regional emergency response headquarters issued several warnings overnight about the threat of a drone attack in Belgorod and the Belgorod District. Authorities reported no drone strikes or their aftermath.
