Russia’s Moscow Exchange index dropped below 1,900 points at Monday’s open for the first time since October 10, 2022.

The index fell 2.06% from the previous session’s close, the Russian business news outlet RBC reported. Losses narrowed during the session, and by 10:15 a.m. Moscow time the index had climbed back above 1,900 points.

The Russian stock market has now declined for five consecutive months, RBC said. Since the start of 2026, the Moscow Exchange index has lost about 30%.

Experts polled by RBC forecast that the Moscow Exchange index could fall to 1,850 points. They note that on July 24 the central bank is due to make a decision on the key interest rate. If the regulator does not cut the rate, the experts believe, the stock market could accelerate its decline.
