Ukraine’s outgoing prime minister was offered the ambassadorship in Washington. Yulia Svyrydenko’s answer, according to Ukrainska Pravda’s source: ‘Go to hell.’
Yulia Svyrydenko has turned down an offer to become Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States after she steps down as prime minister, a resignation expected soon, sources told Ukrainska Pravda.
“Yulia refused outright. She just said, ‘Go to hell,’” one source told the outlet.
Svyrydenko has not decided what she will do after leaving office, the sources said. “She still has plenty of time,” one of them said. “She’ll decide before September.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced Svyrydenko’s resignation as prime minister on July 12, a step that automatically means the resignation of the entire cabinet. Zelensky said at the time that Svyrydenko had been offered the chance to lead a “new significant area in relations with a key partner,” but he gave no details.
Ukrainian media, citing sources, had reported that Svyrydenko would become Ukraine’s next ambassador to the United States. The Ukrainian news agency Interfax-Ukraine reported on July 12, citing sources, that the current ambassador, Olha Stefanishyna, was stepping down of her own accord.
Stefanishyna’s resignation had not been officially confirmed at the time of publication.
