Kyrgyzstan asks neighbors and Belarus for help with fuel supplies. The country gets 90% of its gasoline from Russia.

Kyrgyzstan has asked Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Belarus for help as a fuel crisis deepens in Russia.

Kyrgyzstan’s Energy Ministry said it had sent those countries, along with the Russian Federation, official requests to maintain stable fuel supplies. The ministry also said talks were underway to diversify supplies and expand international cooperation in the sector.

The Reuters news agency reports that Kyrgyzstan receives 90% of its gasoline from Russia.

The Energy Ministry said fuel and lubricant reserves are currently sufficient. The Kyrgyzstan Oil Traders Association, however, said some gas stations have faced shortages of AI-95 gasoline, while reserves of AI-92 — the grade more widely used in the country — are sufficient for 30 to 45 days.

The Energy Ministry also said authorities are monitoring fuel prices and that the antimonopoly agency regularly holds working meetings with oil traders.

In neighboring Uzbekistan, Bloomberg reports, prices have already begun to rise. AI-92 gasoline is up 11.8% on the exchange since the beginning of June, and the supply of gasoline at trading sessions has fallen significantly.

Kazakhstan, the largest fuel producer in Central Asia, first imposed a ban on exports of certain products and then tightened border controls, limiting vehicles to one border crossing per day.

Russia’s fuel crisis continues to spread, with restrictions on gasoline sales now in place across nearly every region of the country. The shortage emerged after Ukrainian drone strikes on oil refineries forced facilities to cut production or shut down altogether.
