Russia closes seven railway border crossings with Finland, Latvia, and Estonia

Russia will temporarily close several railway border crossings with Finland, Estonia, and Latvia starting July 1.

A government decree orders a halt to “the movement of persons, vehicles, goods, and freight” at the following crossings as of Wednesday:

Vyborg and Svetogorsk in the Leningrad region (on the border with Finland)
Vyartsilya and Lyuttya in Karelia (on the border with Finland)
St. Petersburg-Finlyandsky (on the border with Finland)
Pechory-Pskovskiye in the Pskov region (on the border with Estonia)
Pytalovo in the Pskov region (on the border with Latvia)

The Foreign Ministry is required to notify the governments of Finland, Estonia, and Latvia of the decision. No explanation has been given for the closures, and no end date has been announced.

Of the crossings listed, only those at Pechory and Pytalovo have been operating over the past two years. The border with Finland has been closed by the Finnish authorities.
