Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov has topped the republic’s United Russia party list every election since 2007. Not this year.
For the first time since 2007, United Russia has left Ramzan Kadyrov off its list of State Duma candidates from Chechnya.
The independent Russian news outlet Govorit NeMoskva reported that the party’s regional list is headed by State Duma deputies Shamsail Saraliyev, Ruslan Lechkhadzhiyev, and Akhmed Dogayev, along with a Kadyrov ally, Chechen Prime Minister Magomed Daudov; his first deputy, Isa Tumkhadzhiyev; and the head of the republic’s administration, Galas Taymaskhanov.
Adam Delimkhanov, another ally of the Chechen leader, became the party’s candidate in Chechnya’s single-member district.
Kadyrov was also absent from the party’s congress on June 28.
In recent years, reports have repeatedly said Kadyrov is seriously ill.
