Ukrainian drone strike outside Moscow kills infant, leaves mother without legs
The mother of a six-month-old boy killed in a Ukrainian drone strike on a house outside Moscow has had both legs amputated, the news outlet Ostorozhno, Novosti reported.
According to the outlet, a married couple and their two children were living in the house in Yegoryevsk, a town in the Moscow region, at the time of the strike. The attack mainly hit the bedroom, where the woman and her younger child were. The child suffered severe burns and died en route to the hospital. The woman remains hospitalized and has not regained consciousness, the report said.
Her husband had a foot amputated. Their older child, age six, suffered almost no physical injuries.
Ukraine’s military launched a mass drone attack on the Moscow region overnight on June 29–30. The target was the Space Communications Center in Dubna, a town near Moscow, President Volodymyr Zelensky said.
Footage showed a drone striking a private home in Yegoryevsk. Open-source intelligence analysts interviewed by the outlet Agentstvo said the crash could have resulted from Russian electronic warfare, a technical malfunction, or an error in the drone’s programmed coordinates.
