U.S. President Donald Trump spoke by phone with Vladimir Putin, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said on Sunday.

The two leaders spoke for 55 minutes, covering bilateral relations and the international situation, including the war between the U.S. and Iran and its possible imminent end.

Putin congratulated Trump on his 80th birthday. Trump told him he was the first foreign leader to call that day, Ushakov said.

Trump expressed support for ending the Russia–Ukraine war and signaled his readiness to pressure Kyiv and Europe, according to the Kremlin aide.

Putin told Trump that if Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wanted to meet with him, he should come to Moscow. The two presidents also agreed that Trump’s special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner would travel to Russia again in the near future.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also said he had spoken with Trump by phone and congratulated him on his birthday, adding that the two had discussed “many key issues in detail, including, of course, peace.”

“We discussed what could help bring peace closer right now, and I briefed the president on the latest developments on the battlefield and how our position has strengthened. We agreed to discuss this further at our meeting at the G7 summit,” Zelensky added.

Zelensky later added that the two had agreed to meet. It remains unclear whether the meeting will be one-on-one or with other leaders present.
