Ukraine’s Security Service conducts ‘enhanced inspections’ of residents in regions bordering Belarus
Ukraine’s Security Service announced “enhanced security measures” across the country’s northern regions to “prevent enemy infiltration” and head off sabotage in border areas.
Security Service officers, working alongside the military, will conduct “enhanced inspections” of local residents and carry out searches of vehicles, premises, and surrounding areas.
The campaign covers Chernihiv, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Volyn, and Rivne regions.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on May 15 that, according to Kyiv, Russia is trying to convince Alexander Lukashenko to join “new aggressive operations.” Zelensky claimed Moscow is considering, among other options, an invasion of northern Ukraine from Belarusian territory.
Joint nuclear exercises with Russia began in Belarus on May 19. According to the officially announced plan, they are scheduled to conclude today, May 21.
