Ukraine apologizes to Estonia after drone enters its airspace and is shot down by NATO fighter jets
Ukraine has apologized to Estonia after a drone entered Estonian airspace and was shot down by a fighter jet. Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi posted the apology on social media platform X.
Tykhyi blamed the incident on Russia, saying that Russian forces continue to redirect Ukrainian drones toward the Baltic states using electronic warfare systems.
“Moscow does this on purpose, together with intensified propaganda,” Tykhyi wrote.
Tykhyi also said the Baltic states and Finland had never granted permission for Ukrainian drones to fly over their territory, and that Ukraine had “never requested” such permission.
On the morning of May 19, a Ukrainian drone was shot down over Estonia. The drone was intercepted by Romanian F-16 fighter jets participating in NATO’s Baltic Sea air policing mission.
