Student opens fire at school in Russia, wounding 2
A ninth-grader opened fire at a school in Gulkevichi, a city in Krasnodar Krai, reports the Krasnodar-based news outlet 93.ru.
The regional MVD confirmed to Interfax that the shooting occurred at School No. 1. The teenager left after opening fire but was detained.
According to preliminary reports, two students were wounded and taken to a hospital.
93.ru reports that the ninth-grader fired a traumatic pistol. Krasnodar Krai Governor Veniamin Kondratyev said the student brought a pneumatic weapon into the school and “injured two students.” “We now need to figure out how a high-schooler managed to bring a weapon with him. We will conduct an inspection of the school administration and the security company, and a commission from the regional Education Ministry has already been sent to the municipality,” the governor added.
Baza, a Telegram channel with ties to Russia’s security services, reports that the shooter is 16 years old. He wounded two 15-year-old students with the pneumatic weapon — one in the temple, one in the abdomen. Doctors say both victims are in satisfactory condition.
