Ukrainian drones strike petrochemical plant in Russia, sparking fire
Ukrainian drones struck Russia’s republic of Bashkortostan on the morning of April 15, the region’s head, Radiy Khabirov, said. Several drones were shot down over an industrial zone in the city of Sterlitamak, he said.
Debris fell on the grounds of one of the facilities. Khabirov did not identify the facility. All emergency services were on the scene working to extinguish a fire that broke out, he added.
Based on a photograph obtained from a witness, the independent Telegram channel Astra concluded that the drones had targeted the Sterlitamak petrochemical plant, which produces fuel components including aviation gasoline, as well as various chemical additives and hardeners.
The Ukrainian Telegram channel Supernova+ published photos and video showing the fire in Sterlitamak.
Sterlitamak is more than 1,500 kilometers (930 miles) from the front line.
