Former Russian Finance Ministry official jailed on charges of sexual violence against child
A Moscow court has ordered the pretrial detention of a former Finance Ministry official on charges of violent sexual acts against a child under the age of 14, the Russian business news outlet RBC reported.
Georgy Golovanov, who served as deputy director of the ministry’s department overseeing customs policy and the regulation of alcohol and tobacco markets, was ordered detained on March 27. He appealed on March 31.
No details about the case have been made public.
Golovanov is no longer a ministry employee, having resigned voluntarily, the Finance Ministry told RBC. In 2026, however, he appeared on the ministry’s website in a schedule of meetings with the public.
