Jailed Moscow punk musician says he was tortured and framed for explosives possession
Police in Moscow have reportedly charged punk musician Vladimir Bolobolov with storing explosives after allegedly torturing him and planting evidence. Bolobolov, 37, disappeared on August 27 after visiting a coffee shop near his home. Relatives filed a missing person report the next day. He later told his family that he was attacked as he left the cafe and was forced into a car. FSB agents then allegedly tortured him with electric shocks, strangled him, and demanded that he confess to unspecified crimes.
The next day, officers reportedly brought Bolobolov to his apartment for a search. He says they produced a homemade explosive device that was disguised as a power bank — an item he claims never to have seen before. Bolobolov was released briefly on August 30 but was soon re-arrested while leaving a hospital where he sought treatment for the injuries he says he suffered during interrogation.
Bolobolov next faced a disorderly conduct charge and was due for release again on September 16. Instead, authorities transferred him to a facility in Balashikha and charged him with storing explosives — a felony offense. According to media reports, security officials allege that he retrieved the explosive device they say they found at his home from a secret cache. Neither the FSB nor the Interior Ministry has made any public announcement of formal charges against Bolobolov.
