Russian strike hits prison in Zaporizhzhia region, killing at least 16, Ukrainian official says
Russian forces attacked a correctional facility in Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region, killing at least 16 people and injuring 35 more, Governor Ivan Fedorov said on Tuesday.
According to Fedorov, the Russian military struck the Zaporizhzhia district eight times during the night, reportedly using high-explosive aerial bombs. Buildings at the prison were destroyed, and nearby private homes were damaged. He did not provide further details.
Andriy Yermak, the head of the Ukrainian president’s office, called the strike on the correctional facility “yet another war crime committed by the Russians.” “Putin’s regime, which also issues threats against the United States through some of its mouthpieces, must face economic and military blows that strip it of the capacity to wage war,” Yermak wrote on X.
