The U.S. has authorized Ukraine to carry out long-range missile strikes on Russian territory, E.U. foreign policy chief Josep Borrell confirmed at a press conference on Monday.
“The Biden administration has authorized the use of its weapons up to 300 kilometers inside Russian territory,” Borrell said, describing the range as “not that much,” but acknowledging it was “the decision by the administration.”
When asked about the timing of the policy shift, Borrell said he didn’t know why the decision was made now, though he noted it had been discussed earlier within the E.U.
Borrell also stressed that no collective agreement to lift restrictions on strikes against Russian targets was reached at the meeting of E.U. foreign ministers, adding that each country will decide on the matter independently.
