Zelensky says he expects war with Russia to ‘end more quickly’ with Trump replacing Biden

Volodymyr Zelensky said this week that he expects Russia’s invasion to end more quickly now that Donald Trump is returning to the White House. In a new interview with the news outlet Suspilne Media, Ukraine’s president said, “Without a doubt, with the policies of the team now set to lead the White House, the war will end more quickly.” At the same time, Zelensky admitted that he cannot offer an “exact date” for when the war will end. “A just peace is crucial so that we don’t feel like we’ve lost the best among us for the sake of an injustice forced upon us,” he explained.

Describing his recent phone call with Donald Trump, Zelensky said he “didn’t hear anything that opposed our position” when the U.S. president-elect explained his views on the war in Ukraine. When asked if Trump demanded that Kyiv negotiate with Moscow, Zelensky said that Ukraine has “proven that telling us just to ‘sit down and listen’ doesn’t work.”
