Update: Russia’s Defense Ministry has since posted photos and videos of Viktor Sokolov attending a defense ministry meeting.

Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces (SSO) say that the September 22 missile attack on the Russian Black Sea Fleet headquarters in annexed Sevastopol wounded 105 Russian servicemen and killed 34 officers, including Admiral Viktor Sokolov, commander of the fleet.

In an earlier statement, Ukraine’s military intelligence chief Kyrylo Budanov said that at least nine Russian servicemen were killed in the strike but did not confirm reports of Sokolov's possible death.

The SSO also stated that Russian forces suffered 62 casualties in Ukraine’s September 13 attack on the Sevastopol Shipyard, including, allegedly, military personnel on the Minsk landing ship. The SSO made no mention of the Rostov-on-Don submarine, which was damaged during the same attack.

The SSO did not provide evidence for their statements, and there are still no independent confirmations of casualties in the two attacks.

Meduza cannot immediately verify these claims.
