Russia launched a missile and drone attack on Kyiv overnight on August 30. Kyiv City Military Administration head Serhiy Popko wrote: “Overnight air attack. Kyiv hasn’t experienced such a powerful attack since spring. The enemy conducted a mass, combined attack using drones and missiles.”
The city was first attacked by drones from various directions, before being hit by air-launched missiles, Popko wrote on Telegram. He added that air defense systems shot down up to 20 missiles and drones.
Falling missile debris in the Shevchenkivskyi district killed two people that were guarding a business. Another three people were injured, two of which were hospitalized, Popko wrote.
Kyiv mayor Vitalii Klitschko also reported that two people were killed and two hospitalized as a result of the attack. Klitschko added that falling missile debris sparked a fire at a store building in the Darnytskyi district. The fire was quickly extinguished.
The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that several residential houses were damaged as a result of the missile strike.
Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine’s Armed Forces Valerii Zaluzhnyi said that all 28 cruise missiles, and 15 of the 16 drones were shot down.
