Roman Bilyk (known by the stage name Roma Zver), the frontman of the Russian rock band Zveri (“Beasts”), recently played a concert for Russian soldiers in Ukraine, according to Semyon Pegov, the creator of the pro-Russian Telegram channel WarGonzo.
Pegov posted a video Monday that shows Bilyk in a helmet and a bulletproof vest watching the launch of a projectile at the positions of one of the formations of the self-proclaimed “Donetsk People’s Republic.” The clip then skips forward to show the musician and one of his bandmates performing a song.
After the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Zveri posted a statement on Facebook condemning the war. In addition, Bilyk spoke out against the war on his personal Instagram account. Both posts have since been removed or made private.
In June, the band was scheduled to play at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, but their performance was canceled after a local official filed a complaint with city prosecutors regarding Bilyk’s anti-war statements.
