Explosion reported at oil refinery in Russian city of Samara

State Duma Deputy Alexander Khinshtein reported that an explosion occurred at the Kuybyshevsky Oil Refinery in the Russian city of Samara.

According to Khinshtein, an explosive device was planted there. He says that the explosion did not cause any “serious damage” or injuries.

The Samara regional authorities have not commented on the explosion.

The Telegram channel 112 wrote that the explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device. According to the channel, a 42-year-old man, referred to as “Sergey O” and who worked as an electrician at the plant, was responsible for the explosion. He allegedly fled the scene by car and was soon detained at the Russia-Kazakhstan border. This information has not been confirmed.
