Ukraine’s air defenses shot down Russian cruise missiles over the city of Dnipro and the Kyiv and Kharkiv regions, said Yuriy Ignat, spokesperson for Ukraine’s Air Forces .
He says Russia likely attacked Ukraine with Kinzhal and ballistic missiles launched from the south-west. He did not specify how many missiles Ukraine’s Armed Forces (AFU) shot down.
AFU spokespeople say that the ultimate target of the missile attack was Starokosiantyniv, in the Khmelnytskyi region, where, writes BBC News Russian, a military airstrip is located.
Ignat added that Russian cruise missiles launched by the Russian military remain in the skies over Ukraine.
During the evening of July 26, an air raid alert sounded across all of Ukraine. Air defenses were reportedly working in the Kirovohrad, Dnipropetrovsk, and Khmelnitskyi regions. The Kyiv metro stopped operations during the air raid alert. Media outlets have published video footage of missiles flying over Ukraine.
