Russian State Duma deputy and former army commander Andrey Gurulev confirmed on a talk show Wednesday that Lieutenant General Oleg Tsokov, a commander of the country’s 144th Motorized Rifle Division, was killed in Ukraine.
Earlier, Ukrainian news outlets and Russian pro-war Telegram channels reported that Tsokov was killed by a Ukrainian missile strike in the Russian-occupied city of Berdyansk. The Russian Defense Ministry has not commented on these reports.
According to the independent outlet iStories, Tsokov is the seventh Russian general confirmed to have died since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
