Vyacheslav Gladkov, governor of Russia’s Belgorod region, said on Telegram that the border town of Valuiki was hit by shelling in the early hours of July 5. “The air defense system went off, but there is destruction on the ground,” Gladkov wrote, adding that two private residences and five cars were badly damaged. Residents were reportedly unharmed.
Roman Starovoit, head of the Kursk region, reported that Ukraine had shelled the village of Tetkino. “There were no casualties. School No. 2 was badly damaged,” he wrote.
Authorities in Russia’s border regions regularly report shelling from the Ukrainian side. Generally, Ukraine does not comment on these statements, or emphasizes that it only engages in hostilities on its territory.
