Moscow-installed annexation officials in Crimea and in Ukraine’s Kherson region have reported that the Ukrainian army carried out a missile attack on bridges connecting the peninsula to the region.

According to Crimea’s Kremlin-appointed governor, Sergey Aksyonov, a missile strike hit the Chonhar bridge on Wednesday night. He said there were no injuries and that the authorities have begun surveying the roadbed. “Information on whether traffic is possible will be reported in an hour,” he wrote at 7:35 local time Thursday morning.

Vladimir Saldo, the Russian-installed head of the occupied part of the Kherson region, said that the Ukrainian army shelled “bridges” near the village of Chonhar using Storm Shadow cruise missiles and that the road surface was damaged.

“We’re capable of repairing bridges quickly: traffic will be restored in the very near future,” he wrote on Telegram, adding that movement between the Kherson region and Crimea is still possible via a backup route.

BBC News Russia noted that the road through Chonhar is currently the shortest route from Crimea to Melitopol and then to the southern front, where the Ukrainian army is currently trying to advance.
