The Russian Defense Ministry and Chechnya’s Akhmat battalion have signed a contract codifying the activities of Chechen volunteer units in Ukraine, the ministry said Monday on Telegram.
In addition to defining the battalion’s legal status, the new document expands the financial “social protection and support measures established by the state” to Akhmat volunteers and their family members.
State Duma deputy Adam Delimkhanov, who participated in the signing, expressed his confidence that the commanders of other volunteer units will sign contracts with the government in the future because they “provide the same serviceman status as the Defense Ministry.”
