Kremlin spokesman says Russia does not want Ukraine war to become frozen conflict

Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists Wednesday that Russia shares the West’s view that the war in Ukraine should not become a frozen conflict.

“Russia only considers the possibility of completing the special military operation: securing its interests, achieving the goals Russia has set for itself either through the special military operation or through other available means,” Peskov said.

When asked which of the peace plans proposed by various parties Moscow was most sympathetic to, Peskov said that “none of the preconditions for a peace settlement have been met.”

On May 18, Politico reported that U.S. officials are considering the possibility that the war in Ukraine could become a frozen conflict that lasts “many years,” noting that neither side in the war appears “inclined to admit defeat.”
