Russia’s Defense Ministry reported that two Russian military commanders had been killed in combat in the Donetsk region. The two commanders killed were Colonel Vyacheslav Makarov, commander of the 4th Motorized Rifle Brigade, and Evgeny Brovko, deputy commander of the Army Corps for military-political work.
The Defense Ministry reported that Colonel Vyacheslav Makarov was seriously injured in combat near the Krasne settlement close to Bakhmut. He died during evacuation from the battlefield.
Colonel Evgeny Brovko was killed in combat at an unspecified location. According to the Defense Ministry, he was “killed after receiving multiple shrapnel wounds.”
Russia’s Ministry of Defense reported that Ukraine’s Armed Forces made “massive attempts to break through” Russia’s military defenses north and south of Bakhmut. “All attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces were repelled,” the ministry said.
Russia’s Defense Ministry rarely reports military losses. Deaths of high-ranking military officers are usually made public when they are posthumously presented with military awards.
