Pavlo Kirilenko, head of the Donetsk regional administration, wrote in a Facebook post that the Russian forces had shelled the residential neighborhoods in Slovyansk, destroying a number of apartment buildings.
As of 6 p.m. local time, he wrote in a later update, there was information about five people who had been killed and 15 more who’d been injured. “It’s possible that seven people might still be under the rubble, including one child,” Kirilenko said.
Radio Free Europe has since reported that the child trapped under the rubble has been rescued.
According to President Zelensky’s Chief of Staff Andriy Yermak, at least seven explosions occurred in the area today. One apartment building is partially destroyed. Apartments in two other buildings had caught on fire. Buildings in the surrounding area were damaged.
Kramatorsk Mayor Oleksandr Honcharenko reports that his city was also shelled by the Russian armed forces. Several apartment buildings were damaged, but no casualties have been reported so far.
