Transparency International declared ‘undesirable’ and banned in Russia

Russia’s Prosecutor General has officially declared the anti-corruption non-profit Transparency International “undesirable” in Russia.

According to an official statement about this decision, Transparency International “intrudes in Russia’s internal affairs, presenting a threat to Russia’s constitutional foundations and state security.”

The authorities also claim that Transparency International’s activities “clearly exceed” its declared scope.

The Prosecutor General’s decision effectively outlaws Transparency International in Russia and criminalizes those who assist or participate in its work.
