Russia’s State Duma has voted unanimously to suspend Russia’s cooperation with the New START Treaty, which is the U.S. and Russia’s only remaining nuclear arms control agreement.
Update: Russia’s Federation Council has also approved the bill to suspend Russia’s compliance with the treaty.
Vladimir Putin announced that Russia would suspend its participation in the treaty during his state-of-the-nation address to the country’s Federal Assembly on Tuesday, noting that the suspension is not a full withdrawal. He submitted a corresponding bill to parliament on Tuesday evening.
