President Maia Sandu has confirmed Volodymyr Zelensky’s information about Moscow’s plans to overthrow the government of Moldova.

The Moldovan news outlet Point quoted Sandu, who said that militarized reconnaissance and disruption units may soon attempt to storm government buildings and take hostages in Moldova.

This information was first presented by Volodymyr Zelensky in Brussels. Ukraine’s defense intelligence, said Zelensky, had intercepted “a detailed Russian plan to destabilize the political situation in Moldova.” Zelensky conveyed Kyiv’s findings to Maia Sandu.

Sandu confirms that the materials forwarded by the Ukrainian side “document the locations and logistical aspects of the disruptive activities being organized,” including special instructions on entering Moldova for Russian, Belarusian, Serbian, and Montenegro nationals.

“The goal of these actions,” said Sandu, “is to overturn the constitutional order, replacing the legitimate government with an illegitimate one, which would turn the country over to Russia’s control and halt the process of integration into the EU.”

The plans for destabilizing Moldova rely on internal support from the populist Șor Party, whose leadership has, in turn, accused Sandu of “usurping” political power.
