The number of Russian companies that came under international sanctions has doubled in 2022, reports Kommersant, citing data from Kontur.Prizma, a Russian analytics company.
Before the Ukraine invasion, around 1,500 Russian corporations were on international sanction lists, but by February 2023 this number has doubled. In addition, secondary sanctions affect corporations whose parent companies face direct sanctions.
Most of the directly-sanctioned companies are registered in the Moscow region. St. Petersburg and the Russian-annexed Crimea come second and third in the number of sanctioned entities.
Among the sectors most affected by the sanctions are science research and development (230 companies), wholesale trade (201), finance (152), and education (150).
Ukraine had initiated 2,373 instances of sanctions, followed by the U.S. (1,744), EU (574), Japan (428), and Switzerland (416).
