Following the news of the Estonian ambassador’s expulsion from Russia, Latvia announced a decision to downgrade its diplomatic ties with Russia in solidarity with Estonia.
The Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs tweeted that the change will take effect on February 24 — the anniversary date that marks a year of “ongoing brutal Russian aggression against Ukraine.”
On Monday morning, the Russian Interior Ministry announced that it’s downgrading diplomatic relations with Estonia, and will be replacing the country’s ambassador with a chargé d’affaires.
The Estonian ambassador was given until February 7 to leave Moscow, on the pretext of deliberate “cultivation of hostility” towards Russia by Estonian authorities.
