Martial law will not disrupt ‘normal’ city life, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin assures Muscovites
Following the President’s introduction of martial law in the annexed regions of Ukraine, and of other security measures on Russian territory, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin has assured Muscovites that “currently, no measures that would limit the normal rhythms of city life are being introduced.”
Earlier today, Vladimir Putin signed a decree introducing martial law across the recently annexed Ukrainian territories: the “DNR” and “LNR,” as well as the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.
A follow-up decree, also signed by the President today, outlines the measures to be introduced around Russia itself, to support the implementation of martial law on Ukrainian territories. In particular, it enables the heads of Russia’s regions to introduce extra security measures around energy, transportation, communication, and other critical infrastructure.
According to Moscow Mayor Sobyanin, the tasks of economic stabilization, security, emergency response, civil defense, and other key tasks around Moscow are being performed by the federal and city services in their usual “working mode.”
