Russian prosecutors seek to ban Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Foundation and campaign offices as ‘extremist’
Russian prosecutors have filed a lawsuit with the Moscow City Court on declaring Alexey Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Foundation (the FBK), Citizens’ Rights Protection Foundation, and campaign offices “extremist.”
According to a press release from the Moscow Prosecutor’s Office, Navalny’s organizations are being accused of plotting to overthrow power in Russia by staging “color revolutions.”
“Under the guise of liberal slogans,these organizations are engaged in creating conditions for destabilizing the social and the socio-political situation. The actual goals of their activities are to create the conditions for altering the foundations of the constitutional order, including by way of a ‘color revolution’ scenario.”
The prosecutors also claim that the decision to have the activities of Navalny’s foundations and campaign offices officially recognized as “undesirable” is based on the belief that they have been operating on behalf of “foreign and international organizations on Russian soil.”
Both the Anti-Corruption Foundation and the Citizens’ Rights Protection Foundation (the new legal entity behind the FBK) are considered “foreign agent” organizations in Russia.
