Doctors at the Omsk hospital treating opposition politician Alexey Navalny have decided to send him to Germany for treatment, reports the local news outlet Gorod55.

The decision was announced during a meeting among Navalny’s doctors, attended by his wife, Yulia Navalnaya. According to Gorod55, Navalny is set to leave Omsk in the next few hours.

On the morning of August 21, Alexey Navalny’s aides announced that doctors in Omsk had prohibited his medical evacuation after declaring his condition unstable and “unevacuable.” This decision was made shortly before an air ambulance arrived in Omsk, which planned to fly Navalny to a top clinic in Germany.

The Cinema for Peace Foundation will send a plane to medevac Navalny to the Charité Hospital in Berlin. This is the same clinic that treated Pussy Riot member and Mediazona publisher Pyotr Verzilov following his apparent poisoning in 2018

Alexey Navalny was hospitalized on August 20, after he fell violently ill while on board a plane flying from Tomsk to Moscow. The aircraft made an emergency landing in Omsk, where Navalny was admitted to intensive care. He is currently in a coma and, according to local doctors, in stable but serious condition.
