Russian censors fine Google 700,000 rubles for including banned content in search results

Roskomnadzor, Russia’s media regulation and censorship agency, has issued a 700,000-ruble ($11,100) fine to Google in an ongoing back-and-forth concerning how the tech giant handles search results.

Roskomnadzor officials asserted that Google, which has refused to subscribe the agency’s list of content that is banned within Russian borders, does not exclude enough of that content from its search results in Russia. In February of this year, Russian media sources reported that Google does, in fact, regularly delete links to banned sites from its Russian search results. However, it does so on a case-by-case basis, not automatically.
