Life without light As Russian strikes on Ukraine’s power grid bring blackouts, Kyiv residents carry on in the dark

On the night of November 27–28, Russian forces launched a large-scale assault on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure for the second time this month. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russian troops launched three S-300 surface-to-air missiles, 57 Kh-101 cruise missiles, 28 Kalibr cruise missiles, three Kh-59/69 guided air missiles, and 97 drones. The strikes targeted power facilities across the country, Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko reported. The state energy company Ukrenergo ordered temporary power outages in various areas, including in Kyiv.
