Jailed Kremlin critic Alexey Navalny makes another virtual court appearance

Source: Meduza

On May 26, jailed opposition politician Alexey Navalny took part in a preliminary court hearing on his lawsuit against the Vladimir region’s Penal Colony No. 2 (IK-2). Appearing via video link, Navalny complained about articles being cut out of the newspapers he’s been receiving in prison. According to the Russian state news agency TASS, Navalny said he’s prepared to drop the claim if the prison administration stops censoring the newspapers he receives. A spokesperson for the prison rejected Navalny’s complaints, maintaining that the “newspapers were handed over in good condition.” The lawsuit discussed during the hearing today is one of four claims that Navalny has filed against Russian prison officials since April.
