During the afternoon of October 6, approximately 200 people marched through the streets of Nizhny Novgorod following the memorial service for local journalist Irina Slavina, who self-immolated outside of the city’s police headquarters late last week. She died of her injuries on the scene. Slavina was the editor-in-chief of the publication “Koza.Press” and faced constant pressure from the authorities due to her reporting. Moments before she self-immolated on October 2, she wrote on Facebook: “For my death, please blame the Russian Federation.”
