Nearly 200 women dressed in white and carrying flowers formed a human chain outside of the Kamaroŭski Market in central Minsk on the morning of August 12. This action was held as a show of solidarity with the protesters injured by police officers during this week’s demonstrations in Belarus. For the past three days there have been ongoing opposition demonstrations across the country; police officers have arrested protesters en masse, using tear gas, stun grenades, water cannons, rubber bullets, and truncheons against demonstrators. Women formed similar solidarity chains in neighborhoods throughout the Belarusian capital, as well as in the cities of Zhodino, Grodno, Lida, and Gomel.
