In retaliation for the U.S. government’s decision to force RT to register as a foreign agent, deputies in the State Duma are currently drafting legislation that would apply Russia’s foreign agents law to certain news media outlets, and lawmakers have already submitted amendments to Russia’s law on “undesirable organizations.” On November 13, Andrey Isayev, the first deputy director of the Duma’s United Russia faction, named several media outlets that could be targeted using these new laws. He added that there are “a number of other institutions actively working on Russian territory that could [be declared] foreign agents.”
