Oleg Navalny, the brother of Russia’s famed opposition politician, is currently serving out a 3.5-year prison sentence for allegedly embezzling money from a subsidiary of the cosmetics company Yves Rocher. This week, Oleg launched his own Instagram account, which publishes his sketches from prison.
The account contains several dozen illustrations. A warning to readers: some of the images depict graphic violence and partial nudity.
“According to prison rules, we can only draw with pencils, pens, or charcoal. Only in gray and black! You’re only allowed to use other colors after two years,” Oleg Navalny commented on his drawing of Matroskin the Cat, a character from the Soviet children’s novella “Uncle Fedya, His Dog, and His Cat.”
Navalny has also illustrated a calendar. Below are the drawings for August, September, October, and November.
