Ukrainian intelligence claims responsibility for two explosions on Russian railway tracks
The Ukrainian military’s Main Intelligence Directorate and Special Operations Forces were behind railway explosions in Russia’s Oryol and Leningrad regions over the weekend, RBC-Ukraine and Hromadske reported, citing Ukrainian intelligence sources.
According to the sources, Ukrainian forces planted mines along the railway between the towns of Maloarkhangelsk and Glazunovka in the Oryol region. The explosives were reported by railway workers, and three Russian national guard officers were killed during demining operations there. The blast, which went off on Saturday evening, brought rail traffic to a halt.
Another explosion took place around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday in the Leningrad region, between the villages of Stroganovo and Mshinskaya. A locomotive hauling 15 fuel tankers was derailed in the blast, sparking a fire. Russian officials claimed the tankers were empty.
A Ukrainian intelligence source told RBC-Ukraine that the railway segments that were targeted are “critical logistical links” for supplying Russian troops in the Kharkiv and Sumy areas. “The destruction of rail infrastructure in these areas will cause serious logistical problems for the Russians, which in turn will significantly affect their ability to conduct active operations against Ukraine’s Defense Forces,” one source told the outlet.
