U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday that the United States will send additional weapons to Ukraine, mostly defensive in nature, Reuters reports.

“We're going to send some more weapons. We have to. They have to be able to defend themselves. They're getting hit very hard now,” Trump said during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyanu.

Later, the U.S. Department of Defense confirmed that it would send Ukraine additional defensive weapons on Trump’s orders.

Last week, the Trump administration said it was pausing some weapons shipments to Ukraine to preserve U.S. stockpiles, though the State Department denied that weapons shipments to the country had been frozen.
