Dozens of oil tankers anchor off Chinese and Russian coasts after latest round of U.S. sanctions

At least 65 oil tankers have anchored around the world since the U.S. imposed new sanctions on the Russian oil industry late last week, Reuters reported on Tuesday.

According to data from the ship tracking services MarineTraffic and LSEG, five of the ships are posted near Chinese ports, seven have stopped off the coast of Singapore, and the rest are sitting off the coasts of Russian in the Baltic Sea and in the Far East.

The new sanctions affected 183 vessels, representing 10 percent of the world’s oil tankers, according to analysts cited by Reuters.
