Sources familiar with Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s plans for Monday’s Group of 20 meeting in Rio de Janeiro told Bloomberg that Turkey’s president will propose freezing the Ukraine War along current battle lines. According to Bloomberg, the initiative is in step with “the renewed urgency from Ukraine’s allies who are trying to get ahead of Trump’s return and the possibility of drastic cuts in U.S. support.”
Bloomberg also points out that Putin has shown little interest in a truce and will likely view plans like Erdogan’s “as evidence that its attritional strategy is paying off.”
