U.S. Treasury sanctions another 275 individuals and entities (including Putin’s second cousin) for helping Russia’s ‘war machine’

On Wednesday, the U.S. Treasury Department announced another round of sanctions against Russian officials. The latest measures target 275 individuals and entities involved in “supplying Russia with advanced technology and equipment that it desperately needs to support its war machine.” Among the designees are several Russian deputy defense ministers, including Anna Tsivileva, Vladimir Putin’s second cousin, whose maiden name is listed as “Putina” on the Treasury’s website.

In August, President Putin promoted Tsivileva from ordinary deputy minister to state secretary deputy defense minister, putting her in charge of the military’s communications with the parliament, other government agencies, and public organizations.

Tsivileva’s husband, Sergey, served as governor of Russia’s Kemerovo region until May 2024, when Putin made him energy minister.
